Introduction

Various cases of environmental pollution and the deterioration of public health is the case today due to wastes from various industrial activities, hospitals, markets, restaurants to household. This is because the handling and processing of the waste has not been given serious consideration. More significantly, the presence of the waste may provide a negative value for the activities of the industrial process. However, handling and processing costs are high enough so that the lack of attention from the industry, especially small and medium industries.

Food processing industry in both the small and medium scale numerous in parts of Indonesia, where the production process produces waste which if not immediately addressed, not only pollute the environment, but also its products. Especially the tofu and tempe industry, as small industries most numerous in Indonesia. Because soy foods and products that result are a food source that can be obtained easily and inexpensively and has a high nutrient content. Domestic industries, particularly the organic waste industry know either in liquid or solid form, but most of these industries dispose of their waste directly into the environment without any treatment in advance so contaminate the environment.

The majority of Indonesia's people reside in remote, rural villages. Many of these villages lack access to conventional premium fuel sources such as electricity or fossil fuels. Consequently, many people are forced to use woody biomass as a source of heating energy and cooking fuel. Aside from adversely impacting local wooded ecosystems by deforestation, these practices pose serious human welfare issues since much of this biomass is burned indoors using poorly ventilated furnaces and cook stoves that generate high airborne particle matter (PM) concentrations. One way to overcome limited fuel availability and improve indoor air quality in rural areas is by generating biogas from animal manure using anaerobic digestion (AD) for use as a cooking fuel.

Most tofu industries in Bandung especially in Lembang is home industries that do not pay attention to the waste before disposal, especially liquid waste which most potentially contaminate the surrounding environment, especially water bodies because they contain high organic matter. Therefore, we need some process that can degrade organic materials contained in it, one of which is the use of biological treatment reactors or called with attached growth bioreactor (Attached Growth Bioreactor) in which the role of microorganisms to grow and develop in a natural medium to medium well just as artificial media such as rocks or plastic.
